Bandits rally to clip Wings

Another one bites the dust. The Buffalo Bandits hosted a National Lacrosse League foe with a 6-0 record for the second time in two weeks Saturday night. And for the second time an opponent exited HSBC Arena with an imperfect past.

After allowing the Philadelphia Wings to score the first five goals, on just 10 shots, the Bandits (6-4) rallied for a convincing 21-12 victory before 13,720 charged-up fans.

There is no rival like an old rival. The National Lacrosse League’s only surviving original franchise is also one of the Buffalo Bandits’ most persistent tormentors.

Over the years, the Philadelphia Wings and the Bandits have put on some memorable shows and the rivalry continues tonight in HSBC Arena (7:30 p.m., Radio 550 AM).

Buffalo Bandits defenseman Chris White was picked Wednesday for the East Division team for the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game, just hours after 21-year-old rookie goaltender Daniel Sams was named both the league’s Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week.

The National Lacrosse League All- Star Game will have a distinct Buffalo Bandits flavor to it.

Forward John Tavares and transition man Mark Steenhuis have been voted to the starting lineup for the East Division team that will take the floor March 16 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. Bandits coach Darris Kilgour will assist the head man, Rochester’s Ed Comeau, behind the East bench.
